Introduction
THE REQUEST
My friend group runs a fantasy league every year, but half of us don’t care about individual players — we just want to argue about which NFL teams are actually winning. I wanted a lighter, faster way to play.
THE USERS
My weekly fantasy football group — four to five friends who want the draft-and-standings thrill without a 16-round player draft.
THE SOLUTION
A mobile-first app where players draft entire NFL teams — not individual players — into a Winners squad and a Losers squad. Every team win scores your Winners squad a point, every loss scores your Losers squad a point, and each squad’s final pick, the “Flag Plant,” scores double.
The Process
Brainstorming
The scoring wasn’t the hard part — making a two-phase snake draft (Winners, then Losers) feel intuitive on a phone was. I mapped the app around a familiar fantasy-sports tab shell — Standings, My Team, Draft, Scores, Setup — but stripped down to just teams and win/loss records.
GOALS FOR REDESIGN
✓
Make drafting feel as fast as a real fantasy app, minus the player-by-player grind
✓
Give the “Flag Plant” mechanic real strategic weight with a visible multiplier
✓
Keep it usable one-handed, on a phone, mid-group-chat-argument
✓
Ship a real, playable MVP fast — no backend required

User Scenarios & Pain Points
Antonio — the strategist
PAIN POINT
Traditional fantasy football makes me research 50+ players every single week just to stay competitive. I want the strategy of a draft without a part-time job’s worth of homework.
GOAL
Draft smart once, then let the NFL scoreboard do the weekly work for me.
Kate — the casual player
PAIN POINT
I don’t follow individual players closely enough to draft a competitive roster, so I usually end up near the bottom of our real fantasy league by Week 3.
GOAL
Compete on equal footing by drafting teams, not stats I don’t track.
Ideate / Prototype
FROM THIS

TO THIS

Key Design Decisions
1
Teams over players
Removed the weekly research burden while keeping the drafting thrill.
2
Flag Plant highlighted in a distinct color
Makes it visually obvious which pick doubles your score.
3
Bottom tab bar over a hamburger menu
The group needed one-handed access mid-argument, not a hidden menu.
What I Tested
Ran the app past Antonio, Michael, and Kate before adopting it for real. Michael missed the Flag Plant multiplier entirely in the first version — it looked like a regular pick. Adding a colored badge and multiplier tag made it the first thing people noticed on their roster.
The Results
The Wins League turns team performance tracking into a lightweight game that runs entirely in the browser — no backend, no accounts, just localStorage. It reframes fantasy football around what my group actually enjoys arguing about: which teams are winning, not which running back is hurt.
The Flag Plant mechanic adds a real strategic wrinkle to a simple draft: save your best team for last and double down, or play it safe early. Small idea, but it’s the one that makes the draft interesting.
